Constructed in 1790, the Cape Elizabeth, Maine lighthouse looks much today as it did then. Its beacon can be seen 24 miles at sea. Acrylic on masonite board. 12×9 inch original. Canvas texture digitally added. Best viewed large.
Locally known as 'Old Barney', Barnegat Light is the second tallest lighthouse in the United States. The 165-foot light is located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island, New Jersey. It began operating in 1859 and served until 1927 when a replacement lightship was anchored eight miles out at sea. The tower was also used as a submarine observation station during WWII.

Winter scene of an old (c. 1731) stone and brick farm home located near Ashland, Delaware
Built in 1704, this beautiful colonial home located in Dilworthtown, Pa., has been restored to its original state. Built by Quaker William Brinton Jr., the house has leaded casement windows, an indoor bake oven and a colonial herb garden in the back yard. The house is maintained by the Brinton Association of America and the caretaker is a sixth generation Brinton. Famous Brinton decendents include Civil War General George B. McClellan and President Richard M. Nixon.
This home was was used by General Lafayette, a subordinate of General Washington during the American Revolutionary War Battle of the Brandywine, September 11, 1777. Lafayette was wounded during the battle but later recovered. The home, which today looks much as it did then, was owned by George Gilpin, a prosperous Quaker farmer in the area. Acrylic on canvas board. 8×6 inch original. Completed in 1831, St. Marks Light is the second-oldest light station in Florida. It is located on the east side of the mouth of the St. Marks River, on Apalachee Bay. During the American Civil War, the lighthouse was strategically important as an observation point and was defended by the Confederacy. It was shelled in 1865 by Union forces and had to be completely rebuilt following the war.

These missions became the foundation for the city of San Antonio. The church at Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo, known as the “Queen of the Missions,” was constructed between 1768 and 1782. Today it is administered by the U.S. National Park Service.

These eye-catching sculptures (two of four total) grace the grounds of the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Mo. Installed in 1994, they are18 feet tall and are arranged in various positions. These works were created by internationally known sculptors Claes Oldenburg and his his late wife, Coosje van Bruggen. The pair gained fame by taking everyday objects and turning them into colossal novelties. The giant clothespin sculpture in Philadelphia, Pa., was also one of their projects.

Historic home of John Chad, the ferryman and farmer after whom the town of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania is named. The home was constructed in 1725 near the Brandywine River and John and wife Elizabeth lived there until his death in 1760. Elizabeth continued to live there, witnessing the Battle of the Brandywine from her attic window as Hessian troops advanced on the Americans in September, 1777. Canon from the American line were located on the high ground of her property seen here.

A Pennsylvania farmstead one winter eve
A beautiful stone home in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania
A Pennsylvania homestead at sunset. Located on the property of the historic Newlin Grist Mill (1704), near Concordville, Pa., the stone home was built in 1739 for the miller (note the beehive oven in the original structure). The addition to the rear was added around 1860.
Pennsylvania’s first Catholic parish, established in the 1720s. Parishioners originally met in the home of Thomas Wilcox of Ivy Mills (now Glen Mills). The first chapel was completed nearby in 1856 and a number of restorations followed culminating in the present day structure. The church is a good example of William Penn’s “Holy Experiment” in religious toleration as many local Protestants in the area coexisted with their Catholic neighbors in peace and harmony over the centuries.
