This image illustrates a technique known as "The Droste Effect" coined after the Dutch Droste chocolate company whose packaging featured a nun holding a tray with a box of droste chocolate, upon which the same nun appeared, and so on. Recently it was discovered that "The Print Gallery" by M.C. Escher also exemplified this effect, and it was proven that the effect could be reporduced mathematically and with many variations. I created this image using a custom mathematic formula applied to each pixel of the source image using a piece of open source software called Mathmap.
