The Marston House Museum is one of San Diego's finest examples of the Arts and Crafts movement and was constructed in 1905 for George W. Marston and his wife, Anna Gunn Marston. George Marston is noted for many things but most prominently as a civic leader whose interest and work in historic preservation, conservation and history is renowned. The property was designed and built by the internationally renowned architects William Sterling Hebbard and Irving Gill. Surrounded by five acres of rolling lawns, manicured formal gardens, and rustic canyon gardens, this 8,500 square-foot home became a house museum in 1987 after the Marston family gifted it to the City of San Diego for the enjoyment of the public. Spend some time exploring the grounds, formal gardens and canyon pathways in the shade of towering pine, eucalyptus and oak trees. Color is the first thing you notice about my work. What makes it ‘pop’ is the placement of color and texture. The primary colors in my palette are derived from the colors in the original rainbow flag which represent sexuality, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony and spirit. As a painter I am a visual storyteller. A message comes with the art - perhaps it is playful, calming, erotic, disturbing, political, or even sacred. I like to flirt with the issues and experiences we face in everyday life, the things we do and the places we go that define our lives. Whether positive, humorous, or thought provoking, my work portrays events people relate to while creating a sense of place for the viewer. Point Loma Sunset Cliffs San Diego California by Randy RD Riccoboni. Acrylic painting. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre resource based park stretching along the Pacific Ocean bordering the western edge of Point Loma in San Diego. The 18-acre linear section of the park lies to the west of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Like La Jolla, and Coronado, Point Loma was a favorite area of the early California impressionist artists, I also enjoy painting there and watching the sea and colors change in the light. The Park's topography includes intricately carved coastal bluffs, arches and sea caves. It affords inspiring panoramic ocean views. RD. Riccoboni RD. (Randy) Riccoboni is an innovative American-born painter (California, 1960), influenced by his early years living in the suburbs of New York City.  A self-taught artist, he credits encouragement by family and teachers for his drive and inspiration.

The Star of India is the world's oldest active ship. She began her life on the stocks at Ramsey Shipyard in the Isle of Man in 1863. Iron ships were experiments of sorts then, with most vessels still being built of wood. Within five months of laying her keel, the ship was launched into her element. She bore the name Euterpe, after the Greek goddess of music. Name Star of India in 1906 she has been called the foremost symbol of San Diego, for ships like her were the original sinews of our city's progress. Yet she is more than that-she is the essence of a vanished age, a glorious time when men and women voyaged under towers of masts and clouds of canvas. The Californian is in the background to the left and the HMS Suprise just behind The Star of India. Construction of the most famous Old Town adobe began in 1827 and was completed in 1829 by Captain Jose Maria de Estudillo, commander of the San Diego presidio. When he died in 1830, the house passed to his son, Jose Antonio Estudillo, who served as revenue collector, treasurer, alcalde, and judge of San Diego under Mexican rule and later treasurer and assessor of San Diego County under American rule. 8528c5fb-9314-4fd7-8fd2-aa03de28d185
Old San Diego, California by RD Riccoboni. This is Old City Court House and The Colorado House. Home to the Wells Fargo Company. The Mormon Battalion arrived in San Diego in January of 1847 to support the American military garrison in the pueblo during the Mexican War. When not engaged in military duties, they assisted the community by building the first fired-brick structure in Old Town. Originally designated as a townhall and schoolrooom, once the state legislature incorporated San Diego as the first city in California, it became the office for Mayor, City Clerk, Board of Supervisors. Old Town San Diego is considered the "birthplace" of California. San Diego is the site of the first permanent Spanish settlement in California. It was here in 1769, that Father Junipero Serra came to establish the very first mission in a chain of 21 missions that were to be the cornerstone of California’s colonization. Father Serra’s mission and Presidio were built on a hillside overlooking what is currently known as Old Town San Diego. At the base of the hill in 1820’s, a small Mexican community of adobe buildings was formed and by 1835 had attained the status of El Pueblo de San Diego. In 1846, a U.S. Navy Lieutenant and a Marine Lieutenant, raised the American flag in the Old Town San Diego Plaza. Souvenir art of California. La Valencia in La Jolla by RD Riccoboni

Palm tree lined on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, this is Scripps Park in La Jolla Cove, a San Diego California cityscape by RD Riccoboni. La Jolla Cove is a very small beach, tucked between adjacent sandstone cliffs. Due to its extraordinary beauty and breathtaking ocean views La Jolla Cove is one of the most photographed beaches in Southern California. It is within a short walk of the commercial area of the community of La Jolla, but retains a character "all its own." This is the park above the beach. I have painted this area many times. The large pink Spanish Colonial structure in the backgraound is the La Valencia Hotel. The historic and elegant hotel, built in 1926 is the Place to stay in La Jolla. With such epic oceanic surroundings, you’ll understand how this small inn became the town’s social nexus, but don’t let this reputation imply that the hotel doesn’t offer privacy. Many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Greta Garbo and John Gilbert, Ramon Navarro, Chaplin and Groucho Marx, the Talmadge sisters, Lillian Gish and Mary Pickford, have retreated to La Valencia to escape the glare of stardom’s spotlight. Little has changed at the hotel since it opened in 1926, save the construction of the lavish gold-and-blue-domed tower, which was utilized as a civil defense lookout during World War II.

By painting and drawing what I see, I am creating not just what I see but what others, the people who view my art work, who may also be seeing yet not noticing. Creating art empowers me, and others to access more closely our wants, desires, dreams and hopes through the visual creative arts. Through the years an evolution in my art is constantly taking place, a visual re-write on my canvas and paper and as the years go by my art brings to me and my audience new insights and new visions to our changing lives and expanding our perspectives together. Being a self-taught artist, and not a skilled technician, I see myself as a medium or channel for the creative energies of the Universe to express its constant evolving.

Church of the Immaculate Conception painted by RD Riccoboni, Old Town San Diego California. building started in 1867 and finished and dedicated in 1917. The Church has been in continuous operation since that time and the ties to the Founding Fathers remain strong. In fact, two of the original bells of the San Diego Mission still summon the faithful to worship: one in the Mission San Diego de Alcala in Mission Valley, the other one, here in the bell tower of Immaculate Conception Church in Old Town. Pope Gregory XVI bestowed a great honor on San Diego, as Old Town was originally called, when he made it the seat of the first Bishop of California. In December 1841, the Right Reverend Francisco Garcia Diego, O. F. M., arrived with his retinue and was assigned apartments in the home of Juan Bandini, now known as Casa Bandini - Cosmopolitan hotel which can be seen in my painting titled Calhoun Street. Nearby is Old Adobe Chapel was reconstructed in the 1930's, after the original structure was razed. The Adobe Chapel was the first parochial church in the first parish of California after the secularization of the missions in 1832. The Old Adobe Chapel was the setting for the fictional wedding of Ramona in Jackson's novel. In 1849, a small parish chapel was built and named Immaculate Conception. Now known as the Old Adobe Chapel, this preserved structure can be visited on Conde Street in Old Town. Construction on the present day church began in 1868. Souvenir art of California. Point Loma, Sunset Cliffs by RD Riccoboni, visiable in the blue gray distance are the Coronado Islands just off Mexico to the south. Human figures look out to the sea and relax on the cliff tops. Located in a large metropolitan area just west of the city of San Diego, Point Loma encompasses more than 660 acres of native habitat. Cabrillo National Monument rests protected on 160 acres at the southern-most tip of the peninsula, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, San Diego Bay on the east, and urban development on the north. At the time Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed into San Diego Bay in 1542, a rich diversity of life was present, ranging from desert cactus to moisture-loving algae, tarantulas to sea slugs, and gray foxes to sea lions. Today it's among the rarest in the world. Although only a remnant of that biologically diverse ecosystem remains, it is well worth visiting and protecting. This unique diversity of plants and animals occurs here because Cabrillo National Monument lies at the southern-most extent of some plant and animal ranges, and the northern-most extent of others. Point Loma is also a major migratory area for birdlife boasting the most diverse range of species that have been seen in one place in the USA. A bird lovers paradise.

The Hillcrest Sign, painted by California artist RD Riccoboni. Just up the hill from my gallery in historic Old Town San Diego is the Hillcrest section of San Diego California's most popular and lively neighborhoods. This is the intersection of University and Fifth Avenues with the famous Hillcrest Sign. The sign was erected in 1940. To find out more about Hillcrest visit Hillquest.com. Hillcrest is an older neighborhood which has gone through gentrification, mostly residential with a large amount of retail shops and exciting restaurants along tree-lined streets. Small to large traditional homes, and apartments abound here. The neighborhood is bound by Mission Hills to the northwest, Bankers Hill and the Zoo with Balboa Park to the south, and University Heights and North Park to the east. A large ridge overlooking San Diego Bay borders the neighborhood to the west. Also in Hillcrest is Balboa Park where I have created many of my paintings. The neighborhood's proximity to Downtown San Diego make this an exciting neighborhood. In Hillcrest every July is San Diego Gay Pride, an annual celebration for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Festivities take place the last weekend in July; there is a Gay Pride parade, then a two-day festival in Balboa Park and cultural events the entire month. Hillcrest, CityFest, is an annual street festival which features food, live entertainment, a beer garden and street vendors. This event takes place annually in August a week or two after the pride fest.
